vintage-wall-clock-with-wood-grain-frame-in-wavy-or-rectangle-shape
Vintage Wall Clock with Wood Grain Frame in Wavy or Rectangle Shape

A wall clock with a dark wood-grain frame around a soft cream face, made in two shapes: a relaxed wavy outline, or a tall rectangle with rounded corners. Four numerals, eight slim markers and a dashed line running round the dial give it the look of something that has hung on the wall for years.

No ticking. No plain round dial. No chrome.

Telling the time is the easy part

You already know what a clock is for, and nearly any of them will tell you the time. The harder part is finding one that suits a room with wood, linen and warm light in it, because most of what is on offer is either a plain round dial or a chrome disc made for a kitchen. This one is shaped and colored more like a piece of furniture, so it sits comfortably with a dark wood sideboard or an old bookcase.

It is also taller than it is wide, which changes how it fills a wall. Hung above a sideboard, a desk or a bed, it reads as a framed piece first, and the time is right there whenever you glance up.

The small details are what make it look older than it is

The frame is a band of dark brown wood grain that follows the outline all the way round. It stands slightly proud of the face, so the dial sits recessed inside it like a picture in a frame. The face is a warm cream with a faint mottled finish that looks like old paper or plaster, and it is matte rather than glossy.

Just inside the frame, a fine solid line and a dashed line run side by side around the dial like a row of stitching. Only the 12, 3, 6 and 9 are numbered, and every other hour gets a short double line. Two black bar hands and a thin black second hand turn from a small center cap.

The vintage, distressed finish is deliberate. It is made to look naturally aged, so the marks, tone and texture vary from one clock to the next, and they are part of the design rather than flaws. The surface is not meant to be smooth or polished, and yours will not match the photographs mark for mark.

Quiet enough to hang above the bed

It runs on a silent quartz movement, so there is no tick to count at night and no steady beat in a quiet study. That means it can go above a headboard or beside a reading chair, the two places where anything that ticks soon starts to wear on you. It takes a battery, which is not included.

Which shape, and which size

The Wavy is the one people notice. Its outline rises to a soft crown at the top and swells out differently on each side, so it looks relaxed and a little unexpected. It suits a living room or a dining wall, where the clock is meant to be seen. The Rectangle is the calmer of the two, a classic upright shape with generous rounded corners, and it works nicely in a study, a bedroom or a hallway.

Both come in three sizes, and the number in each size name is its height. The Small suits a narrow wall or the space above a nightstand, the Medium sits well over a desk or a console table, and the Large gives a long sideboard or a bare wall something to hold on to. The exact figures are in the specifications.

Whichever you pick, the wall gets something worth looking at, and the time comes with it.

Specifications

Type: Analog wall clock

Styles: Wavy, with an irregular organic outline; Rectangle, with large rounded corners

Frame: Dark brown wood-grain finish, raised around the face

Face: Warm cream, matte, with a mottled vintage finish that varies from piece to piece

Finish note: The distressed, aged finish is intentional; variations in marks, tone and texture are part of the design, not defects

Numerals: 12, 3, 6 and 9, with double-line markers at the other hours

Hands: Black hour and minute hands, thin black second hand

Movement: Silent quartz

Power: Battery powered, battery not included

Small dimensions: 9.8 in tall x 7.1 in wide (25 x 18 cm)

Medium dimensions: 13.8 in tall x 9.8 in wide (35 x 25 cm)

Large dimensions: 17.7 in tall x 12.6 in wide (45 x 32 cm)

Sizes apply to: Both styles

Mounting: Wall mounted

Package Includes

1x Vintage Wall Clock

https://ridgewellliving.com/products/vintage-wall-clock-with-wood-grain-frame-in-wavy-or-rectangle-shape
