wavy-rim-rattan-basket-shallow-round-fruit-and-bread-bowl-in-3-sizes
Wavy Rim Rattan Basket, Shallow Round Fruit and Bread Bowl in 3 Sizes

A shallow round basket woven from natural rattan, with a rim that rises and falls in soft waves all the way around. It gives the fruit, the bread or the keys one place to live on the counter, and it looks good enough to leave out on show instead of tucking it away in a cupboard.

Most kitchens have a spot where the fruit, the bread and the small things of the day gather. A basket gives that spot a shape. An open, low one keeps everything in view, so the last two pears get eaten instead of forgotten.

A wavy rim that earns its place on the counter

The rim is what sets it apart. Instead of a flat cut edge, the top of the wall rises and falls in gentle, slightly uneven waves, and the whole edge is wrapped in a thick coil of rattan strands that twists around it like a rope. From across the room it reads as a decorative piece rather than a container.

The walls are built up in close rows, each one stitched over with fine strands that all slant the same way, so the stitches line up into diagonal bands running round the basket. The floor is woven in rings that spiral out from a single point at the center. The color is a warm honey brown with darker and paler strands mixed through it, and it sits comfortably next to oak, walnut, stone and linen.

Shallow on purpose, so nothing gets buried

Every size is wide and low, closer to a tray with walls than to a deep bowl. That is the point: the apple at the bottom is as easy to see and reach as the one on top, and nothing sits under a pile for a week. The base is flat, so it stands steady on a counter, a table or a shelf.

The open weave lets air move around whatever is inside, which suits fruit and bread, and a napkin or cloth laid in first keeps crumbs and damp produce off the rattan. Light enough to carry from the kitchen to the table with one hand, it works just as well on an entry console for keys and sunglasses, or on a coffee table for whatever you reach for every evening.

Three sizes, each sold on its own

The Small makes a neat catch-all for keys, a wallet or a few pieces of fruit where space is tight. The Medium is the everyday fruit basket, or a loaf of bread in the middle of a small table. The Large is the deepest of the three, for a household's worth of fruit or a full basket of rolls at dinner.

Each order is one basket in the size you choose. The exact measurements are in the specifications below, so it is worth checking them against the spot it is going into. Fill it once, and the counter finally has a place for the things that never had one.

Specifications

Material: Rattan

Shape: Round and shallow, with a wavy rim and a flat base

Small dimensions: 8.7 in across x 2.4 in high (22 x 6 cm)

Medium dimensions: 9.8 in across x 3.1 in high (25 x 8 cm)

Large dimensions: 11.4 in across x 3.9 in high (29 x 10 cm)

Color: Natural honey brown

Natural variation: Color, weave and size vary slightly from basket to basket, by up to about 0.8 in (2 cm)

Use: Fruit, bread and small household items, indoors

Care

Brush out any crumbs and wipe it with a dry or lightly damp cloth, then let it air dry fully.
