This is the same double-wall vacuum construction in the shape of a jug. The inner and outer walls are 304 stainless steel with a vacuum layer between them, which holds heat in for up to 6 hours and keeps cold drinks cold for up to 12. Pour the pot over a slow morning, or fill it with iced tea in the afternoon, and it stays where you left it.

Nothing sits on a heating element either. A glass carafe left on a warming plate keeps cooking the coffee until it turns harsh and bitter, while this one only keeps in the heat the coffee started with.

Made to pour at the table

Press the lever on the lid and pour from the small triangular spout on the front, which is shaped for a smooth, easy pour straight into the cup. The handle is cool to the touch, so you can pick it up full of hot coffee without reaching for a cloth.

The lid screws into the neck on two seal rings, and it comes out in one piece when you want to fill it or rinse it. Underneath, a silicone base keeps the carafe from sliding on a polished table or a desk.

At 20 oz it holds about two and a half standard cups, which is right for one person working through a morning or two people over breakfast. It is small enough to sit on a desk beside a laptop, and it goes from the coffee maker to the table without taking over either.

It comes in Black, Red and White, each with a soft matte finish rather than a shiny one, and each with the same black lid, collar, spout and handle. Care

Wash it by hand with a soft cloth or sponge. Never put it in the dishwasher and never submerge the whole carafe in water, because over time that can affect the vacuum seal. Avoid abrasive scouring pads on the outside so the matte finish stays smooth.

If it has just held a hot drink, let it cool before you clean it.
