A sculpted animal head for the wall, made of resin and finished in an antique gold tone, with a little character worked into every design. The deer wears rectangular glasses and keeps a pipe at the corner of its mouth, the bear peers out through an oversized pair of frames, and the rabbit carries a monocle on a fine chain. Hang one in the hall or above a sideboard, and that wall has something on it worth a second look.
It is a sculpture, not a print. The fur is worked in deep fine strokes, the ears and antlers stand clear of the head, and the glasses sit proud of the face with the eyes showing through, so the light catches every raised edge and leaves the grooves in shadow. A framed poster looks the same from every angle. This one throws its own shadows. It looks a little different from the doorway than it does from the sofa.
Five characters, and which one suits the wall
The deer is the tallest of the five. It has a full spread of branching antlers above its glasses and a curved pipe at its mouth, and it works best on a wide wall over a sideboard, a fireplace or a bed, where the antlers have room to breathe.
The bear is broad and shaggy, with a thick mane that ends in a fringe of pointed tufts and a big pair of rounded frames. The fox wears narrow glasses with a fine chain looping from both sides down below its chin. Either one fills a narrower stretch of wall nicely, beside a doorway or at the end of a hall.
The rabbit has two tall ears, a curled mustache and a pointed beard, with its monocle chain running down to a small ring at the tip. The mouse is the smallest of them all. With its round glasses and bow tie, it sits happily above a desk or between two picture frames. Exact heights for each design are in the specifications below.
One on its own, or a few together
A single head on a plain wall is enough to give a room a point of focus. Two or three together make a small gallery wall. Every design shares the same antique gold finish, so they read as one collection rather than pieces picked up in different places. A deer between a pair of framed prints, or the fox and the bear either side of a mirror, both look like a decision someone made on purpose.
The finish is warm gold on the raised fur and the glasses, darkening to brown in the deeper grooves, which gives each piece its aged look. It sits just as well against pale plaster as it does against dark paint or wood paneling. Hang it at eye level, and it becomes the first thing anyone notices when they walk in.
