A woven throw packed corner to corner with black-outlined doodles: figures caught mid-dance, a dog barking at nothing, and a square face grinning with three eyes. Hang it across the couch back and that crowd of small characters is what catches your eye from the doorway.
Folded over a chair arm, only a handful of figures show at once. Spread it open across the seat and there is always one more to spot, a heart in one place, a light bulb in another, a little robot with both antennae raised.
The drawing is part of the weave
This is a jacquard cloth in a cotton and polyester blend, so every figure is made from colored yarn instead of being printed onto the surface. Look closely and you can pick out the small flecks of thread inside each shape, with sharp black lines standing out against an off-white background.
The palette runs from deep red, dark green and plum through to gentler peach, pale blue and tan. Across a room the whole thing reads as one lively pattern, and close up it breaks apart into separate little characters.
Fringed on every side, with a darker reverse
Each of the four edges ends in a short, loose fringe. Fold back a corner and you find a darker, flecked weave on the reverse, where the figures come through in cream.
Measuring 51 by 63 inches, there is enough of it to drape over a couch back and fall across the seat, or to lie folded along the end of the bed. Tuck it around your knees for a slow afternoon, then leave it out on show so the drawings get seen.
A throw that earns its place out in the open.
