A spider web a meter across, drawn in black wire and dotted with 70 small LEDs, that goes up on the wall in one piece and lies flat against it. Hang it above the sofa, over a console or at the end of the hallway. Choose warm white, orange or purple, and one decoration fills a space you would otherwise cover with a dozen small ones.
Nothing to shape. Nothing to assemble. No handful of separate pieces to line up by eye.
One piece, and it covers a real stretch of wall
Most Halloween decorating happens in small pieces, a pumpkin on the step and a candle on the shelf. The big blank wall in the living room never gets anything, because nothing small enough to buy is big enough to fill it. This web is 39 inches across and just as tall, a little wider than an ordinary interior door, so it gives that wall a centerpiece on its own.
It arrives as a single net with the spokes, the rings and the lights already in place. You hang it from the top, let it open out against the wall, and the shape is there. Take it down in November and it comes away as one piece, ready for next year.
A web that still reads as a web with the lights off
The whole thing is made from thin black wire, run in pairs. Sixteen straight spokes leave a small ring at the center, and a set of rings crosses them on the way out to the edge, exactly the way an orb web is built. By day that gives you a crisp black line drawing on a pale wall, and it looks deliberate rather than like a tangle of cable waiting to be plugged in.
At dusk the 70 LEDs, set along the spokes where the rings cross them, trace the same pattern in points of light. The wire stays black and the color sits in the soft glow each light throws on the wall, so the web keeps its shape instead of blurring into a single bright patch.
Which one to pick
Warm White gives a golden glow that sits comfortably next to lamps and candles in a room you actually live in. Orange is the traditional Halloween color and the stronger of the two warm ones, while Purple is cooler and looks the most unmistakably like Halloween once the room is dark.
The USB version suits a wall near a charger, a plug adapter or a TV with a spare port, and it never needs a battery change. The battery version goes anywhere, because nothing runs back to a socket, which makes it the one for a hallway or a stair wall. Put it up on the first of October and the room is decorated before you have unpacked anything else.
