Retro Ceramic Lotion Dispenser with Pump, Ribbed Bathroom Soap Bottle

Liquid soap is packed to stand out on a shop shelf, so it arrives in bright plastic with a big label and a pump that clicks. That is fine under the sink. On the counter, where you see it every time you wash your hands, it is usually the one thing in the room that was designed for a supermarket aisle rather than for your bathroom.

This dispenser takes its place. It holds about 13.5 fl oz (400 ml), and the refill stays out of sight until the next top-up. Hand soap is the obvious use. Lotion, body wash and shower gel suit it just as well, so a second one beside the bath or a guest basin makes sense too.

Ribs you notice from the doorway and feel under your hand

The body is a teardrop, narrow under the pump and full and round near the bottom, which keeps it from ever looking top-heavy on a narrow ledge. Fine raised ribs circle it in close rings all the way down. On Black and Brown the tops of the ribs are picked out in a lighter sandy tone while the grooves stay dark. The rings show clearly from across the room, and the matte surface has a softly worn, antique look.

White is quieter. Its rings are finer and shallower, almost invisible face on, and they appear as thin lines where the light falls across the side. The pump is the same on all three: a round-topped head, a long slim spout and a silver-tone collar that covers the neck of the bottle.

Black, Brown or White

Black is a dark charcoal-brown with sandy lines, and it looks strongest on pale stone, white basins and matte black taps, where the rings stand out most. Brown is a warm, earthy mid-brown with the same lighter lines, a natural match for wood vanities, travertine and brass fittings. White is a soft off-white with the finest ribs of the three, calm on dark tile, walnut or a painted green wall, and it keeps a pale bathroom pale.

All three share one size and one shape. Set two or three side by side, one for soap and one for lotion, and they still read as one set.
