Placemats in a soft pebble-grain PU leather, cut in a rounded pebble shape and made in two colors: one on the top, a different one underneath. Flip a mat over and the table changes color, so one set gives you two looks, or both at once if you alternate the places.

They are waterproof and oil-proof, so a spill of gravy or red wine wipes off with a damp cloth instead of soaking in, and they take heat up to 176 to 212°F (80 to 100°C). Choose from four color pairs, in a set of 4 or a set of 8.

Two colors in every mat

Most placemats commit you to one look, and after a few months the table looks exactly the way it did the week you bought them. These have a second face. Blue and Yellow, for example, is a deep navy on one side and a warm mustard on the other. Lay the whole table in navy for a quiet weekday dinner. Turn every mat to mustard when you want the room to feel brighter.

Or mix them. Set alternate places on alternate sides and the table reads as a deliberate two-tone setting. Nothing extra to buy, nothing to store. The rounded pebble outline helps here too. Built for the meals that make a mess

Fabric placemats are lovely until the first drop of curry lands on one, and then they spend more time in the laundry than on the table. The faux leather surface here does not absorb liquid or grease. Wipe it with a damp cloth or rinse it under the tap, and it is ready for the next meal.

The fine pebble grain gives the surface a little texture, which helps keep plates and bowls from skating about when someone leans on the table. The heat rating covers a hot dinner plate or a fresh mug of tea, although a pan or a dish straight from the oven still wants a trivet.
