Long flowering branches climb up both sides of this cotton blanket, and birds with their wings spread fly between them across the open middle. Turn it over and the whole garden is there again in a second set of colors, so one blanket gives a bed or a sofa two quite different looks.
Spread it over the duvet with the other face folded back at the pillows, or throw it over the arm of a chair for the evening. A loose fringe runs around all four edges and softens wherever it falls.
A garden of birds and branches, woven into the cloth
The drawing is closer to an old painted screen than to a repeating print. Branches lean in from the edges, carrying clusters of small leaves, round full-blown flowers and tight buds, while birds in flight and tiny dragonflies are scattered through the gaps between them. Up close there is always another bird to find.
Every shape is jacquard woven into the gauze rather than printed on top of it. Look closely at a leaf and you can follow the colored threads that build it, which is also why the design comes straight through to the other side.
Two faces, and you choose which one shows
Teal puts the garden on a deep blue-green ground, with cream branches, leaves in gold, rust and sage, and slate-blue flowers. Its reverse is a pale, green-tinted cream with the same branches drawn in dark green and navy, which is the lighter, calmer side for a bright bedroom.
Orange is the warmer of the two. Its face is a bright orange with navy leaves and rust flowers, and underneath sits a dark slate blue where the branches and birds turn orange. If you see it on a sofa with the blue side up, that is the same blanket turned over. Fold back a corner on either design and both faces show at once.
Soft cotton gauze, in two sizes
The blanket is 100% cotton, built from layers of gauze, so it has a soft, gently crinkled surface and falls into loose folds instead of lying stiff and flat. It feels as at home over the back of a sofa as it does across the foot of a bed.
Small works as a throw on the couch, and Large is big enough to spread across a bed with the fringe hanging over the sides. The exact measurements are in the specifications below. Whichever face you leave on top, the birds are the first thing anyone notices.
