Built for the chair that actually moves

You already know what a throw does on a recliner: it looks fine until the first time you lean back, and then the footrest drags half of it onto the floor while the rest rucks up behind your shoulders. A recliner changes shape every time you use it, so anything laid over it loose ends up somewhere else by the end of the evening.

This cover is shaped around that. The center panel runs from a short flap tucked over the top of the backrest, down the back, across the seat and on over the footrest to its end, so when the chair opens the cover opens with it. Two black straps with small buckles go around the back of the chair and hold the backrest section where you put it.

One piece, so there is nothing to line up

The arm covers are not separate pieces you have to straighten every morning. They come off the sides of the main panel at seat level, lie over the top of each armrest and hang down the outside, which means the whole cover goes on and comes off in one movement.

On one arm that outer drop carries a stitched pocket with three compartments side by side. The remote goes there. So do your glasses. It sits at hand height on the outside of the arm, not down the side of the cushion where things usually end up.

Quilted, soft, and straight into the wash

The face is a smooth polyester microfiber, quilted through in bands of three close stitch lines that cross into a large diamond pattern, with a pale quilted reverse. Every edge is bound in the same color as the cover. A spill beads on the surface rather than going straight in, which gives you time to wipe it off. When it needs more than a wipe, the whole thing goes in the machine on a cold, gentle cycle.

It covers the parts of the chair that take the wear: the middle of the backrest, the seat, the footrest and the tops and outer sides of the arms. The rounded ends of the armrests and the sides of the backrest stay uncovered, so your chair still looks like your chair. It comes in eight colors, from black and gray through navy and teal to burgundy, brown, taupe and beige. Then the chair just gets used.
