A long, kimono-style fleece bathrobe in bold vertical stripes of two colors, with a wide striped collar that crosses into a deep V, two patch pockets, a tie belt and, if you want the whole set, a pair of matching striped pants. It falls to the middle of the calf, so you are covered from the neck to well below the knee.

Most robes come in one flat color and could belong to anyone. This is the one you notice on the back of the bathroom door, and the one you are still wearing when the second coffee is poured. Belt it. Hands in the pockets. The morning can wait.

Stripes that run from the collar to the hem

The whole robe is one soft polyester fleece with a short, nubbly pile of tight little curls, and the stripes run right through that pile with a soft edge where one color meets the next. Each stripe is about three quarters of an inch wide, and the two colors are equal. They run straight down the body, the sleeves and both pockets, which line up with the stripes behind them so the pattern carries on across your hips.

The collar and the belt turn the pattern the other way. On both, the stripes run along the length rather than across it, so the collar band frames your neck and the front edge in a neat line of its own, and the belt crosses the vertical stripes at the waist. The sleeves are wide and straight, the shoulders sit low and relaxed, and the fit is loose from top to bottom.

The robe on its own, or the robe with matching pants
