A ring of gold wire with sprays of clear faceted beads swirling out from it, made to hold a napkin at each place on the Christmas table or to lie flat round a tea light or the base of a candle. Most of the beads hold flecks of gold glitter, so when the candles are lit the whole thing glints with them.
No ribbon to tie. No sprigs to wire together. It goes on the table looking finished, and it packs flat when the season is over.
Beads that do something when the candles are lit
Most napkin rings are a plain band of metal or wood, and once the plates and the glasses are down nobody notices them. This one sits wider than the napkin it holds, because the wire carries on past the ring in long, fine sprays that all sweep round the same way, like a small wreath that has been caught by the wind.
Each spray splits into short twigs wrapped in twisted gold thread, and every twig ends in a single clear faceted bead about the size of a peppercorn. The beads are faux crystal, made of acrylic, with fine gold flecks inside most of them. In daylight they look like frost on a branch. By candlelight they pick up every flame on the table and throw small points of light back across the cloth.
A napkin ring at each place, a candle ring in the middle
Roll or fold a napkin, slide it through the ring and set it on the plate, and the beaded sprays spread out over the napkin like a little gold garland. Or lay the ring flat on the table and stand a tea light in its glass in the middle, so the beads sit in a circle round the flame. Around the foot of a candle holder or a lantern on the sideboard it does the same job, and the light from the candle runs straight through the beads.
The wire bends by hand, so you can open the ring out a little, tighten it, or tease a spray back into shape after it has been in the box. Each order is one ring, which makes it easy to buy exactly as many as the table has places.
Small or Large
The Small has a tight ring and a light, airy spread of sprays. It is the napkin size, and it also sits neatly round a tea light in its glass. The Large has a much wider ring and more sprays carrying more beads, so it reads as a small wreath on the table and suits the base of a pillar candle, a candle holder or a lantern. Plenty of tables use both: the Small at every place, and one Large at the center. The exact spans are in the specifications.
Whichever you choose, the table looks set for Christmas before anything has come out of the oven.
