You already know what a towel rack is for. The trouble with one that carries a shelf is that the shelf is always out, sticking into the room over the basin or the toilet, where it catches your head when you lean in and crowds the door in a small bathroom.

This one swings out of the way. Lift the front of the top rack and it pivots at the two brackets until it stands upright against the wall, while the bar below stays where it is for a hand towel. Fold it back down when the clean towels come out of the dryer or guests are staying, and it is a flat shelf again.

The top rack is a frame of flattened, rounded tube with slimmer rods running between its arms, and it is wide enough for two stacks of folded towels side by side. The towels you have just used go on the bar underneath, where two hang next to each other with room to dry.

That bar is double. A looped front rail takes the towels, and a second, slimmer rod runs just behind it inside the loop. Every part is rounded at the corners, with no sharp end for a towel or a sleeve to snag on.

A hook under each bracket for everything else

At the foot of each bracket sits a small double hook, one prong curling to each side. They take the things that never have anywhere to go in a bathroom: a bath brush by its loop, a sponge on its cord, a wash mitt or a face cloth. It keeps them off the floor and off the side of the bath.

Aluminum in an even matte black

The whole rack is aluminum alloy finished in a matte black lacquer, so there is no shiny chrome to keep polished. Aluminum does not rust, which is the reason to choose it for a room that fills with steam every morning. The black sits well against pale marble, gray tile and plain painted walls alike.
