A walnut coffee scale shaped like a leaf, where the bowl you pour the beans into is the scale itself. It weighs your dose to a tenth of a gram on a small display set into the wood, and its narrow end is a pointed spout, so the same cup that measured the beans pours them straight into the grinder.
No second cup to weigh in. No beans bouncing across the counter. Fill it, read it, tip it.
The cup is the scale, so the dose never changes hands
Dosing on an ordinary kitchen scale means setting a cup on the platform, zeroing it, weighing the beans and then carefully moving them into the grinder, which is exactly when a few of them bounce off the rim and disappear under the machine. Here there is no separate cup and no platform, because the walnut bowl is the part being weighed.
Pour the beans in and the display shows their weight. Add a few more or tip a few back into the bag until it reads the dose you brew with, and the beans are already in the cup they will leave from.
A pointed spout that puts every bean in the hopper
The narrow end of the leaf rises into a soft point. Tip the bowl forward and the beans gather behind it and run out over the tip in one narrow stream, which is easy to aim into the throat of a hand grinder or the hopper of an electric one. Tilt it further for a faster pour, ease it back to slow it down, and the beans go where you point them instead of over the sides.
It works the same way for a pour-over. Weigh the beans for the dripper, pour them into the grinder, and the scale is back on the shelf before the kettle has boiled.
Walnut you can leave out, with the display set into the wood
The body is walnut, polished smooth, with the grain running from the back of the bowl out toward the spout. At the wide end a small raised block carries a black display panel, which lights up with pale blue-white digits and a power symbol and reads in grams or ounces, down to 0.1 g.
There are no batteries to change. The battery is built in and charges through a Type-C port in the side of the bowl, just below the display. At 4.6 by 4.0 inches it sits in the palm of your hand, fits beside an espresso machine or a grinder without crowding either one, and looks as good waiting on an open shelf as it does in use. Every morning dose becomes one cup, one number and one pour.
