A front lip tall enough to keep everything where you put it

Most shower shelves are a flat ledge with a little rim, so a bottle knocked with an elbow simply goes over the edge and into the tray. The front of this one stands 3.9 inches tall, about halfway up a full-size bottle of shampoo. The lower half of every bottle sits hidden behind it, and the pumps stay in reach above. From across the room you see one clean band of color rather than a row of labels.

The shelf is a single sheet of aluminum folded into a channel: a short back plate against the wall, a floor 3.9 inches deep, and the tall front. Both ends are open, so a tall bottle slides in from the side as easily as from the top.

Water drains out instead of sitting under the bottles

A long narrow slot runs through the floor near the front, so the water that drips off a bottle after a shower runs out rather than collecting in the bottom. That keeps the base of each bottle out of standing water, which is where the slippery film usually starts.

It is solid aluminum alloy with a smooth, lacquered matte finish, and aluminum has no iron in it to rust. Black suits pale tile and marble, white sits quietly on white or dark walls, and gray works with concrete, stone and brushed steel fittings.

Two hooks, three lengths, two screws

A short round peg stands in each end of the channel, and a loop hooked over it hangs straight down below the shelf. One end takes the loofah and the other a face brush, so neither ends up on the floor of the shower or hooked over the tap.

The Small fits a narrow stretch of wall beside the shower valve, the Medium suits the everyday shampoo, conditioner and body wash, and the Large runs along the length of a bath. Exact lengths are in the specifications below.

It fixes to the wall with two screws through the back plate, one near each end, so it needs two holes drilled. The same shelf works over a kitchen backsplash for oils and spice jars, with a tea towel on one of the hooks.
