Six cooking tools that cover almost everything you do at the stove: a skimmer, a ladle, a solid turner, a pasta server, a slotted turner and a serving spoon. Six tools, and each one has a job

You already know what a ladle is for. The point of a set is that the right tool is there when the moment comes, instead of a serving spoon pressed into service for everything.

The skimmer is a flat round disc with rows of small holes, made for lifting dumplings, eggs or blanched greens out of the pot and leaving the water behind. The ladle has a deep round bowl for soup and stock, and the serving spoon is a plain oval for rice, vegetables and sauce. The pasta server has a ring of short teeth that catch spaghetti and two slots that let it drain on the way to the plate.

The two turners split the flipping. The solid one is wide, with a flared front edge that slides under pancakes, omelets and a pan of stir-fry. The slotted one is narrower and lets fat run back into the pan when you lift bacon or a piece of fish.

A non-stick surface that lets food go

All six heads are black with a non-stick surface, so an egg slides off the turner and rice falls off the spoon instead of clinging to it. That makes serving neater, and it makes cleanup quicker, because there is less left on the head when you put it down.

Brushed steel handles in three finishes

Each handle is stainless steel with a soft brushed finish rather than a mirror shine, so the color reads as satin and the light sits on it gently. It is slim where it meets the head, then swells into a long, rounded grip that fills your hand, and it is heat-resistant, so it stays comfortable to hold through a long stir.

Silver is a cool, plain brushed steel that sits with any kitchen. Gold is a warm satin gold-tone that looks good beside brass or wood, and Rose gold is a soft pink copper tone that suits a warm, pale kitchen. The heads are the same black on every finish.
