A single artificial berry branch, 26 inches long, with clusters of round berries across the top and serrated green leaves that turn gold at the tips. Choose frosted slate-blue berries or glossy rust-brown ones, then stand the branch in a narrow vase, lay it along the mantel or tuck it into a wreath for the season.
No water to change. Nothing wrinkling on the mantel by New Year. It comes out of the box looking the same every Christmas.
A winter branch that stays the way you arranged it
Cut berry stems from a florist look wonderful for about a week, and then the leaves curl, the berries wrinkle and the vase water turns cloudy. This branch skips all of that. The leaves are silk and the stem and berries are plastic, so what you set out at the start of the season is still there at the end of it.
It is built like a real branch rather than a fake bouquet. The lower half is a plain, slim stem, which is the part that disappears into a vase. Above it a couple of side twigs carry leaves only, and the top third splits into short sprigs, each ending in a loose cluster of berries with a small dark dimple at the tip. The leaves have saw-tooth edges and pressed veins, green at the base and fading to a soft yellow-gold, the way leaves look late in the year.
The stem is bent to fit the box for shipping, so straighten it by hand when it arrives. If a berry or a leaf has been knocked loose on the way, it pushes back onto its stalk.
Slate blue or rust brown
Blue is the quieter of the two. The berries are a dusty slate blue-gray with a frosty bloom over a darker core, like sloes or juniper berries in the cold. It sits well with white walls, gray stone, silver, pale wood and white candles, and it suits a calm, Scandinavian kind of Christmas.
Brown is the warmer one. Its berries are a glossy rust brown, mottled all over with darker flecks, so they catch the light like polished seed pods. It looks at home beside oak, brass, terracotta, plaid and cream, and anywhere a room already leans toward the colors of autumn.
One branch, and how to use it
Each order is one branch, and the vase is not included. On its own it is made for a tall, narrow bottle vase, where a single stem with plenty of air around it looks deliberate rather than sparse. A wider jug or a full arrangement wants several branches, so it is worth deciding on the vase first.
It also works lying down. Run it along the mantel between candles, lay it down the middle of the dining table on a linen runner, or tuck the stem under the twine of a large wrapped present. Pushed into a twig wreath or a garland, it adds a cluster of color without needing anything else around it, and at the end of the season it lies flat in a box until next Christmas.
