Every light sits on its own dark green spring clip. Pinch it open and close it over a branch. The little candle stands upright on top, the way a real one would. The clips and the twisted wire between them are a deep green close to the color of the tree itself, so among the needles they all but disappear and only the white shows.

Because each one is clipped on rather than draped, you choose exactly where it goes: evenly from the top down, gathered toward the front of the room, or out at the tips of the branches where it shows best. Taking them down is the same in reverse. The string winds up for next year.

The string runs from a plug-in adapter, which comes in the box, so there is no battery pack to hide in the branches and nothing to replace when the glow starts to fade.
