A round storage basket coiled from soft cotton rope, with a rope handle standing up on each side of the rim. It comes in tan or white and in three sizes, each sold on its own. When you do not need it, the soft walls fold down so it can wait on a shelf until you do.

Soft cotton rope, coiled into a basket that holds its shape

The whole basket is one braided cotton cord, wound round and round from a coiled base and stitched row on row up to the rim. Each row is a single round braid, and together they give the walls a fine woven texture that catches the light. The rows sit tight together, so there are no gaps and no loose ends.

The result is a straight-sided drum that stands up open on its own, empty or full. Cotton rope is soft to the touch, so it can sit on a polished floor or a painted shelf, and there are no sharp cane ends to catch on a knit throw the way some wicker does. The rim is simply the last coil of rope, rounded and even all the way round.

Two handles that stand up, ready when you reach for it

The handles are loops of the same cord, doubled, rising about three and a half inches above the rim at opposite sides. Because they stand up rather than hang down, you can lift the basket off a low shelf or out from under a console with one hand.

Carry it to the sofa when the throws are needed, or to the bathroom with a stack of clean towels. Set it down, and it looks like part of the room again rather than something mid-chore. Nothing to unclip and no lid to lift off first.

Tan or white, and the size that suits the spot

Tan has the warm, natural look of jute twine and sits easily beside oak floors, walnut furniture and linen. White is a soft, warm off-white rather than a stark one, which keeps a pale bedroom or a bright bathroom feeling calm.

The Small is a low, wide drum that works nicely on a shelf, a bathroom counter or a desk for the small things that need a home. The Medium is as tall as it is wide, which suits rolled towels, a folded throw or a pile of magazines beside a chair. The Large is the tallest of the three.
