Three pillar candles in three heights, each one standing inside its own glass sleeve with a warm LED flame that moves the way a wick does. Switch them on from across the room, or set the timer once and they light themselves at the same time every evening, on the mantel, a bookshelf or the edge of the bath.
No matches. No smoke on the ceiling. No wax to chip off the shelf, and nothing left burning when you doze off on the sofa. Put two AA batteries in each, press On, and the room looks like evening.
The flame sits down inside the glass, where a real one would be
Cheaper flameless candles tend to put a flat plastic flame on top of the pillar, out in the open, and it gives itself away from the doorway. Here the pillar stops well short of the rim, so the glass carries on above it and the flame stands down inside the sleeve, the way a candle looks in a hurricane glass.
The flame is a shaped, three-dimensional teardrop on a short dark wick, near white at the heart and warm yellow toward the tip. It catches the light and sways like a flame in a slight draft. The glass around it picks up a soft reflection of that glow, which is what gives the set its depth once the lamps are off.
Set the timer once and they come on by themselves every evening
One small remote runs all three. Press 2H, 4H, 6H or 8H and the candles come on, stay lit for that many hours and switch themselves off, then come back on at the same time the next day without anyone touching them. Set the six-hour timer when you get in, and the hallway is lit when you walk through the door from then on.
The same remote turns them on and off, raises or lowers the brightness, and switches between a flickering flame and a steady one. Each candle takes two AA batteries, which are not included, in a compartment underneath with its own small on and off switch. They are made for indoor use.
Clear for a bright room, gray or amber for a warmer, lower glow
The glass is what sets the three apart. Clear lets the ivory pillar show through, like a classic church candle, and suits white walls, bathrooms and bedrooms. Gray is a smoked glass with a silvery sheen that turns the glow soft and low, which works beside dark wood, black frames and a modern living room. Amber warms the light to gold and looks best on a dining table, next to brass, or against warm wood.
Every set comes in the same three graduated heights, so they arrange themselves: the tallest at the back and the two shorter ones in front, on a tray, along a mantel or down the middle of the table. However you group them, that corner of the room is glowing before you have taken your coat off.
