Floating LED Candles with a Magic Wand Remote and Flickering Flames

Ten lit candles hanging in the air above a dinner table, with nothing holding them up and nothing burning. That is the whole product, and the first time a room sees it nobody works out how it is done.

No flame. No wax. No smoke drifting into the food. Hang them, wave the wand, and leave them there for the evening.

The line is the whole trick, and from underneath nobody sees it

Every candle arrives with a fine line already tied to the point of its flame. A small white adhesive pad goes up on the ceiling, the beam, the branch or the arm of a chandelier, the line goes on the pad, and the candle hangs tip-up beneath it. From directly below, which is where everyone in the room is standing, the line vanishes into the ceiling and the candle just sits there in the air.

Each one is about six and a half inches long and a little over half an inch across, so a dozen of them read as real dinner candles from anywhere in the room. Hang them at different lengths. A row cut to one drop reads as a light fitting, and a dozen at staggered heights reads as levitation, which is the picture you already have in your head.

Real tapers cannot do this, and that is not a small difference

You could hang real candles over a table once, and then spend the whole evening watching them instead of your guests. These are molded plastic with an LED in the tip, so nothing above anybody's head is alight. There is no smoke, no wax landing on a plate and no scorch mark on the beam it hangs from. They stay cool. Children walk under them, a cat can sit on the table beneath them, and the worst that ever happens is that one gets knocked and swings.

The flame is a small translucent teardrop that glows warm white and flickers instead of sitting at one flat brightness, and that is most of the difference between a candle and a bulb.

One wave of the wand and the whole ceiling comes on

A wand comes in the box: thirteen inches of dark gnarled stick with an amber tip. Wave it and the candles light. Wave it again and they go out.

That matters more than it sounds, because the whole point of these is that they hang at ceiling height, out of reach. Switching forty of them on by hand means a ladder and twenty minutes, and doing it from where you are already standing takes about a second. Each candle also has its own switch at the base, tightened by hand, if you would rather set them once and put the wand away. Each candle runs on a battery of its own and so does the wand, and none of them are included in the box.

How many to hang

The number you want follows the ceiling rather than the table. Ten fills the space directly over a small dining table, a doorway or a stairwell landing, and it is the set to start with if you have never hung them before. Twenty covers a long table end to end, or a hallway. Forty and a hundred are for a whole room, a hall or a marquee, where the candles are meant to become the ceiling rather than sit over one spot.

They come down in ten minutes, go back in the box, and come out again next October.
