Hotel bathrooms are not built for the person staying in them

You already know what a wash bag does. The problem is where you put it, because most bathrooms away from home give you about nine inches of wet marble beside the basin and a soap dish already sitting on it. This one never has to touch the counter. A bent metal hook sits on a webbing tab inside the lid, and it is real hardware rather than a plastic clip. Loaded, it takes a door hook, a towel rail or the lip of a shower screen and holds the bag there. The lid falls back and the bag hangs open with the mesh facing you. Take what you need. Leave the rest where it is.

Three places for things, so nothing ends up loose

The main compartment is one deep box, nearly ten inches end to end, with a smooth plain lining and no seams for toothpaste to work its way into. A travel size shampoo bottle stands upright in it rather than lying on its side. So does a travel size can of shaving foam, and there is room left for a razor, a brush and a folded washcloth.

The lid takes the small things. A zipped mesh pocket runs the full width of it and holds whatever must not fall out on a train, from clippers and spare blades to a toothbrush lying flat with its tube of toothpaste beside it. It is mesh, so a wet brush dries instead of sweating in the dark.

Then there is a zip across the outside, for the two or three things you want before you have opened anything at all.

Why not the ten dollar pouch

A flat zip pouch costs a fraction of this and it fails in three predictable ways. It has no shape, so a bottle lies down and leaks. It has no hook, so it lives on the counter or on the floor. And its lining drinks up whatever escapes, which is why the one in your drawer still smells faintly of shampoo.

This holds its box shape empty. It stands up on a shelf, takes the same slot in your case every trip, and lies flat across a cabin bag beside a pair of shoes. The outside is PU leather over a polyester backing, so it wipes clean and shrugs off splashes and a wet hand. The lining wipes out with a cloth, which is the difference between a bag you keep for ten years and one you throw out after a leak.

Dark Brown, Brown and Light Brown all run warm gold-toned metal fittings, from the sliders to the flat pull tabs. The Black is black hardware throughout, down to the zip coil. Nothing else about the four differs, so pick the one you would rather look at for the next decade.
