Two small clear lanterns, each about the height of a coffee mug, with a Halloween scene printed on their sides and a warm LED glowing behind it. They come as a matching pair, and they stand on a shelf or hang from a ring at the top.
No flame. No cord. No outlet needed, wherever you put them.
Made for the small spots a big decoration never fits
Most of what comes out in October is sized for the porch or the front lawn, and the rooms you actually sit in get whatever squeezes onto the mantel. The places that stay dark are the narrow ones, like the end of a bookshelf, the gap between two picture frames, a windowsill behind the curtain or the corner of a desk. At 3.7 inches tall on a base 1.6 inches square, these slot into exactly those places, and having two means you can put one at each end of something so it looks planned.
The light runs from two small cells in the base. That leaves no plug to find and no cable to hide behind the books.
Lit, the scene turns to silhouette. Unlit, it shows its colors
The shell is clear plastic with fine vertical ribs running up all four walls and over the pointed roof, and a small cap at the very top carries a metal ring. The printed scene sits behind those ribs. Switch it on and the picture goes dark against an amber glow, while the ribs break the light into thin upright lines, so it reads more like a lit window than a printed card.
In daylight, with the light off, the colors come back. The yellow moon, the orange pumpkins and the red handle of the reaper's scythe all show, so the pair still looks like something on the shelf at noon.
The switch is a small slide on the underside, beside a clip-off cover over the battery compartment. Each lantern takes two AG13 button cells, which are not included.
Which scene to pick
All four share the same shell, the same size and the same light, so the choice comes down to the picture. Witch is the classic, a green-faced witch on a broom crossing a full yellow moon, with a haunted house and a row of carved pumpkins underneath. Reaper is the darkest of the four, a hooded skeleton holding a scythe among gravestones and skulls.
Pumpkin is the friendliest and carries the most color when it is unlit, with a big carved jack-o'-lantern under bare trees and a spider web. Scarecrow has a gnarled tree with a glowing face, an owl on a branch and a pumpkin-headed scarecrow above a line of small pumpkins. Both lanterns in a pair carry the same scene. If you want more than one, a second pair in another design sits well beside the first.
They take up almost no room on the shelf in October, and almost none in the storage box in November.
