Reading Figure Bookends, Set of 2 Ceramic Sculptures in Gold or Silver

Two small ceramic sculptures of people lost in a book, sold as a pair. The block reader is taller and narrower, sitting upright on a plain rectangular block with its head tipped down over the pages, one foot planted in front of the block and the other tucked back against it.

Neither figure has a face. The heads are smooth ovals and the bodies are drawn long and simple, so the pair reads as a modern sculpture rather than a figurine with painted detail. Turn them around and the other side is finished just the same, which means either figure can stand at either end of the row.

Bookends that still look right when the shelf is half empty

Plain brackets only make sense while there are books leaning on them, and the moment a few go back to the library or onto the nightstand you are left with two pieces of hardware at either end of a gap. These do the same job, with each figure's flat back pressed against the end book of the row. Take the books away and they are still a pair of sculptures worth looking at.

That makes them easy to move around. Put them back to back on a mantel, side by side at the corner of a desk, or with a short run of hardbacks between them on a console in the hall.
