Suction works by sealing flat against a surface, so it needs one that is smooth and non-porous: glazed tile, glass, a mirror, acrylic or a smooth painted wall. On a surface like that, each hook is rated to hold up to 15 pounds, comfortably more than a wet bath towel or a heavy robe weighs.

Textured plaster, grout lines, rough stone and wallpaper are a different story, because the pad can never sit fully flat against them and the seal will not hold. Pick a spot in the middle of a single smooth tile, wipe it clean and dry, and give the suction its best start.

Four hooks, enough for the whole room

One hook is never enough in a bathroom. With four in the set there is room for two bath towels by the shower, a robe by the door and a hand towel or a loofah by the sink, and nobody's towel ends up folded over the edge of the bath.
