Wildflowers spread across this cotton gauze blanket from edge to edge. Rose pink blooms, burgundy seed heads and sprigs of green and blue-gray leaves are all woven into the cloth rather than printed on top of it. A broad dark green band frames the pattern, and underneath sits a second face in a completely different color, so one blanket gives the bed two looks.
Spread it over the duvet with one corner turned back to show both sides, or fold it over the end of the couch for the evening. At 79 by 91 inches it is big enough to lie across a whole bed and still hang over the edges.
Flowers you can see in the weave itself
Look closely at the cream design and every petal, stem and seed head is built from colored threads, packed tightly against the paler, open weave of the gauze around them. That is jacquard weaving with yarn-dyed cotton, which means the color runs right through each thread and the pattern lives in the fabric instead of sitting on its surface.
The drawing is loose and botanical rather than formal. Long-petaled flowers in rose and burgundy lean among berry sprigs, feathery blue-gray fronds and small round leaves in two greens. From across the room it reads as a meadow. Up close there is always another flower to find.
Two designs, and each one has a second face
Cream puts the pale wildflower face on top and backs it with a deep teal, where pink and red flowers, white seed heads and small orange sprigs sit on the dark ground. It is the lighter of the two, and it brightens a plain white bed without making the room feel busy.
Teal turns that the other way around. Its face is the deep teal, covered in white leaf sprigs, orange branching stems and pale green flowers, while the reverse is a soft apricot scattered with coral, pink and green blooms. Choose it if you would rather the darker, richer color be the one you see most. With either design, a folded-back corner shows both faces at once.
Four layers of cotton gauze, finished with a striped band
The blanket is 100% cotton, made from four layers of gauze, so it has a soft, slightly crinkled body that falls into loose folds over the side of a mattress or the arm of a couch. It also travels well beyond the bedroom, and it makes an easy blanket to spread on the grass for a picnic.
A wide woven band runs around every side. On the patterned front it is dark green with a fine diagonal stripe, and on the reverse it turns to a soft oatmeal stripe. A twisted green and brown stitch closes the very edge. Whichever side lands on top, the flowers are the first thing anyone notices.
