Each ball hangs on two fine threads that meet at a small eyelet on top, one thread running up to each frame. That V of thread is what keeps the swing running straight along the row, so the balls meet face to face instead of glancing off at an angle. At rest they hang touching in one neat line, low over the base.

Polished steel and a deep red base that look right on a desk

The balls and frames have a polished, mirror-bright finish, so they pick up the window, the lamp and the room around them. The frames are two plain rectangles with softly rounded corners, standing one behind the other, and the only detail on them is a row of small bands along each top bar where the threads are tied.

The base is a deep wine red with a gloss that reflects the balls hanging above it, and a fine sparkle in the finish when the light catches its rounded edge. Next to black keyboards, gray laptops and white paper, it gives the desk one warm color without adding anything loud.
