A black candle lantern with a warm LED pillar inside and a small solar panel set into its roof. Clip it to a branch or a railing, or stand it on the deck or a step, and once the switch is on it lights itself as the evening comes in and goes dark again at dawn.
No extension cord across the lawn. No wax, no matches, nothing for the wind to blow out. It charges in the sun and looks after itself.
It runs on the day it has just had
The two solar cells in the roof charge a rechargeable AA battery through the day, and six to eight hours of sun gives it eight to ten hours of light after dark. You set the switch to on once, and from then on it comes on at dusk and switches off at dawn without anyone going out to it.
That is what makes it easy to put almost anywhere. There is no outlet to reach and no cable to bury, so the spot is decided by where it looks right and where the panel can see the sky. A branch in the open, a fence post or the corner of a sunny deck all work. Deep shade under a thick hedge will not.
A candle's glow, not a floodlight
The light comes from an LED pillar candle standing in the middle of four clear panels, so what you see from across the garden is a warm amber glow framed in black, the way a real candle lantern looks on a summer evening. It gives about ten lumens. Soft, on purpose. It marks a step, dresses a tree and gives the table some atmosphere, and it will not light the whole yard.
They look best in a group. Three hung at different heights in one tree, or a row of them along the edge of the deck, reads as one warm scene rather than a single point of light.
Hang it from a branch, or set it down
A metal clip on a ring sits on top of the roof. It grips a twig, a branch or a railing, so it hangs straight with nothing to screw in or tie. Unclip it and the square base stands flat on a table, a wide stair tread or the boards of the deck.
It is rated IP44 for wet locations, so it can stay out through a rainy evening rather than coming in every time the weather turns. At 8.66 inches tall with the clip, it is small enough to move around the garden as the season changes, and on a sunny week the tree by the patio glows each evening without you thinking about it.
