A curved holder that sticks to the inside of a cabinet door and keeps a pot lid standing upright in it, so the lid is out of the stack and exactly where your hand goes when the pan comes out.

No drill. No screws. No lid balanced on top of the saucepans. Peel the backing, press it onto a clean door and slide the lid in.

Lids are the hardest thing in the cabinet to put away

Pans nest inside each other and plates stack, but a lid with a knob in the middle does neither, so it ends up leaning against the back of the shelf or perched on whatever pan it fits. Reaching for the frying pan means moving two lids first, and the one you want is always at the bottom. The inside of the cabinet door is the one flat surface in there that nobody uses, and it is right in front of the shelf the pans live on.

This holder turns that door into a place for the lid. It stands upright, it stays clear of the cookware, and you can see which one it is the moment the door opens.

A cradle shaped around the rim of the lid

The holder is a long, shallow curve in molded ABS plastic, with a stepped piece at each end. You lower the lid in from the top, its rim drops behind the front edge, and the two stepped ends hold it upright from either side so it does not tip forward when the door swings. The knob sits just above the top edge, ready to grab.

It takes round lids from 6 to 13.5 inches across, glass or stainless steel, with a rolled rim and no more than about 1.2 inches deep. Deep domed covers are too thick for it, so check the tallest lid you own against that figure before you choose a spot.

Where it sticks, and where it will not

The adhesive backing is made for smooth, solid surfaces: cabinet doors, wood, tile, glass and metal, which includes the side of the fridge. Rough or textured walls, brick, wallpaper and anything uneven are the places to avoid, because the backing needs full contact to grip. Wipe the spot clean and dry first, then press the holder on firmly.

The black one looks sharp on wood, dark or stainless surfaces and reads as a deliberate detail on a white door. The white one almost disappears against white cabinets and tile, so all you notice is the lid. Either way, each holder takes one lid, and the pan it belongs to finally has its cover one reach away instead of somewhere at the back of the shelf.
