Red is the traditional choice. Glossy red berries sit at the tips of the twigs with green leaves, a few dark textured buds and clear beads among them, so it looks at home beside a wreath, wood, plaid and evergreen garland.

Gold swaps all of that for gold leaves and small gold beads, with the same clear beads catching the light, and there is no red or green on it at all. Lit, it glows a warmer, more golden color, which suits cream walls, brass, white and the calmer, neutral rooms where red would stand out.

Batteries in the base, so it goes where the outlets are not

The battery box sits under the square base, behind a screwed cover, with the switch beside it, so nothing shows from the front and the base stays flat on the table. It takes three AA batteries, which are not included.

Because there is no plug, the spot is decided by where it looks best rather than by where the nearest socket happens to be. It is made for indoor use, on a shelf, a dresser or a dining table, and it packs away with the rest of the decorations once the season is over.
