A tissue box cover made of ceramic and built entirely from rounded bubbles, two layers of them stacked into a soft, chunky block. Set it on the bathroom counter, the desk or the table beside the sofa, and the tissues you keep out anyway sit inside something that looks chosen for the room.

It comes in five finishes, four of them matte and one a mirror-bright silver. The pack goes in through the open base, so the top stays one smooth piece with a single slot, and there is always a tissue standing up ready to pull.

Filled from underneath, so the top never comes apart

A cover with a lift-off lid gives you a seam across the top and one more piece to put down somewhere while you refill it. This one has no lid at all. Lift it off the counter or turn it over, and the whole base is open. Push a soft pack in, pull the first tissue up through the slot, and set it back down.

The slot runs along the middle of the top, between the front and back rows of bubbles. Its edges follow their curves, so the tissue rises out of the shape itself rather than out of a cut in a flat panel.

It takes a soft pack, the kind sold in a plastic wrap rather than a cardboard carton. The cover is smaller than a standard tissue carton, so a boxed pack will not go inside it. Take the tissues out of the box, or buy them in soft packs, and the cover holds them neatly out of sight.

Five finishes, and the rooms each one suits

Black is the quiet one. Matte and soft-edged, it looks right on walnut, dark stone or a charcoal vanity, and it suits a study or a home office as well as a bathroom. Teal is a deep blue-green with the same matte surface, and it works nicely against pale tile, brushed brass or a plant on the windowsill.

Cream is the softest of the five, warm rather than bright white. A light wood nightstand or a bedroom in linen tones suits it well. Blue is a strong cobalt, the one to choose when the box is meant to be noticed, on a white desk or a plain side table.

Silver is a different object altogether. Every bubble is a small curved mirror, so it picks up the colors of whatever room it sits in and looks a little different from every angle you see it. Whichever you choose, the tissues stay exactly where they always were, and what holds them becomes one of the better-looking things on the counter.
