A ceramic bottle for olive oil or vinegar, 9.4 inches tall, with a round body, a slim neck, a loop handle and a pour spout with a small cap. Olive branches heavy with dark blue olives are painted right around it, so it looks as good beside the stove as it does in the middle of the dinner table.
No plastic bottle with a peeling label on the counter. No oil glugging out of a wide neck. Fill it, cap the spout, and leave it out where you cook.
A bottle worth keeping out on the counter
Most oil lives in the bottle it came in, and that bottle usually ends up at the back of a cupboard because nobody wants it on show. This one is made to be seen. The design sits under a glossy cream glaze, with long green leaves, navy olives and small orange curls and dots running all the way around the body and up the neck.
Warm yellow bands circle the top of the neck, the base of the neck and the bottom of the body, and the rim is a terracotta brown. The word Olio, Italian for oil, runs around the top of the neck in thin black letters. Next to a wooden board, a bowl of tomatoes or a loaf of bread, it simply looks like it belongs there.
A thin, steady pour instead of a splash
The narrow spout lets the oil out in a fine stream, so you can drizzle a salad, a pan or a slice of bread without flooding it. Between uses the small white cap pushes back over the tip on its short tether, which keeps dust out of the spout and means the cap never goes missing in a drawer.
A round bottle can be awkward to tip, which is what the handle is for. It loops out from the neck and joins the body at the shoulder, so your fingers have a proper hold while you tilt it toward the pan.
Room for most of a bottle of oil
It holds about 700 ml, or 23.6 ounces, which is most of a standard 750 ml bottle of olive oil. Keep it by the stove for oil, or fill it with balsamic or red wine vinegar for the table, or with a dressing you mixed ahead of time.
It is one bottle with one spout, so oil and vinegar side by side means two of them. At 4.5 inches across, handle included, it fits in the corner next to the stove without crowding the space you actually work in, and the oil finally has somewhere better to live than the back of the cupboard.
