The outer cloth is folded over the rim and stitched down, so the top edge stays neat and round.

Empty or full, it stands upright with its mouth wide open, ready for the next armful. The shape is a plain straight-sided drum, a little taller than it is wide, which tucks into a corner or beside a dresser without looking like an afterthought.

Two thick twisted rope handles in a soft cream color sit opposite each other just under the rim. Each rope runs in through a pair of dark metal eyelets and is knotted on the inside, so the loop hangs free at the side, out of the way until you reach for it.

A waterproof lining for damp towels and bathroom floors

Inside, the walls and the floor are lined with a pale cream fabric that carries a waterproof coating. A damp bath towel or a gym shirt can go straight in, and the wet stays on the inside instead of working its way through the weave to the floor or the rug underneath.

Once it is empty, the body folds down into its own rim and lies flat, a single round disc you can slide onto a closet shelf or under the bed until the next pile builds up.
