Two poses that read as one piece

A single deer on a shelf can look like it wandered off from somewhere else. Two tell a small story. With one standing and one at rest, the pair holds a scene together, and the lying deer's backward glance makes them read as two animals that belong to each other.

Every surface of the bodies is a set of crisp flat planes meeting at sharp edges. As the daylight shifts, some faces brighten while others fall into shade, so the outline stays easy to read from the far side of the room. The antlers are the one smooth part. Each rises in a wide curve to three points.

Black, white, one of each, or gold

Black is a deep matte black that looks sharpest against a pale wall, light oak or white-painted shelves, with the gold antlers standing out clearly against it. White does the opposite, so it suits dark wood, a charcoal wall or a shelf of books with darker spines.

Black and white gives you a black standing reindeer with a white one lying at its feet, which works well where the room already mixes both. Gold is the warm one. It covers the whole pair in a soft champagne sheen, antlers included, and glows under lamplight beside brass, walnut and candles.

The standing reindeer is 11.8 inches to the tips of its antlers, about twice the height of a standard pillar candle, and the lying one is 7.1 inches.
