Rechargeable Vintage Lantern, Dimmable LED Camping Light, Black or Green

A small rechargeable lantern built along the lines of the old kerosene ones, with a two-tier hat, a black cage and a warm LED glowing inside a clear shade. It stands 7.5 inches tall on a table, hangs from its hook anywhere else, and the dial on its base takes the light from a faint glow up to full brightness.

Candle-colored light, with nothing to blow out

Most of an evening does not need the ceiling light. It needs one warm pool of light where people are actually sitting, on the dinner table, the porch steps or the end of a camp table. A candle does that beautifully until it burns down, drips on the cloth, or gets left alight on the porch when everyone goes inside. A camping light does the opposite and floods the table in flat blue-white.

This one gives you the candle's color without the candle's jobs. The LED is warm white, the light spreads out through the clear shade on every side, and there is nothing hot or open to think about when you carry it indoors or leave it glowing on a shelf for the evening.

One dial for any level in between, and up to ten hours on a charge

The round dial on the front of the base switches the lantern on and then raises the light smoothly, with no fixed steps, so you can leave it as a low glow beside the bed or turn it all the way up to find the tent pegs after dark. The battery is built in and rechargeable, and it gives up to 10 hours of light between charges. You charge it through the USB-C port in the side of the base, from the same kind of charger as your phone.

The S-hook clips through the loop on top of the hat, so it hangs from a branch, a tent loop, a pergola beam or a hook by the back door. Take the hook off and it stands flat on the table. The body is ABS plastic and there is no glass in it to break.

Black for the house, green for the campsite

Both colors share the same black cage, black hook and black ridged foot ring, and only the hat and the base change. Black is the quieter of the two and sits easily on a mantel, a bookshelf or a modern dining table. Green is a muted army olive that looks most at home outdoors, next to canvas, timber and a fire pit. Either way it is a table-top size, about as tall as a wine bottle to the shoulder, so it lights the people around it rather than the whole garden.
