A vibration plate that lives under the sofa. It stands four and a half inches off the floor and runs from a remote in your hand. Two resistance bands clip to the front corners, so your arms have something to do while you stand on it.

No frame. No handrail. Nothing left standing in the corner of the room.

Most home gym equipment fails on floor space

The bike, the rower, the folding bench. Each one arrives, gets used for two weeks, and then turns into furniture. It ends up in the spare room with a coat over it. You stop noticing it, and then you stop using it.

This is 20.8 inches wide, 12.4 deep and 4.5 tall. Thin enough to slide under a sofa, or to stand on edge behind a door. Nothing has to be shifted out of the way first, so nothing has to be shifted back.

The three words molded into the deck

Walk sits on the center line. Jog is part way out. Run is at the outer edge. They mark where to put your feet, and the machine runs three modes named after them.

The panel across the front edge carries a red readout and a handful of buttons. Behind them are 120 speed settings, so the step from one to the next is small. The timer runs ten minute sessions.

Underfoot the deck is rubber, not plastic. A ridged panel runs down the middle. Toothed pads cover the area under each foot, so a shoe has something to grip.

Your arms work while your legs stand still

Two black bands clip to the lower front corners of the base. Molded handles at the top, metal snap clips at the bottom. They pull against the machine rather than against you, so the plate stays where it is.

That turns standing still into a press, a pull or a row. Legs on the deck, arms on the bands, one piece of equipment on the floor. Unclip them and they go in a drawer.

Why not the cheap plate

A cheap plate puts every control on the machine, and the machine is under your feet. Change the speed and you are bending down at the ankles, or stepping off. This one comes with a wireless remote, so you set it from where you are standing.

The second corner they cut is the deck, because a flat rubber top is cheaper to mold than a patterned one. The third is the bands, which usually cost extra and are in the box here. None of that matters much on the day it arrives. It matters in week three, when the thing is still out and still being used.
