A small black fire pit that puts a real flame in the middle of the table. Pour isopropyl alcohol into its stainless steel cup, light it, and you get 40 to 50 minutes of fire on a coffee table, a dinner table or a patio, with no smoke drifting into your eyes or your clothes.
No gas line. No firewood. No ash to sweep up afterwards. Fill it, light it, and put it out with the snuffer when the evening is over.
A fuel you can pick up with the groceries
Most tabletop fires want something special: a bottle of bio-ethanol, a tin of gel or a gas canister. This one burns isopropyl alcohol, the ordinary rubbing alcohol sold in drugstores and supermarkets, so a refill is never more than one errand away.
The fuel goes into a stainless steel cup that sits inside the body, and that cup is where the flame lives. It starts blue at the base and climbs into soft yellow and orange tongues that move with the air, which is the part people end up watching for half the evening. One fill burns for 40 to 50 minutes, long enough for a dinner or a drink outside, and it gives off no smoke, so it suits a table indoors as well as out.
A steel cup inside, and a snuffer to finish
The burn cup is 304 stainless steel, and only its thin rolled rim shows above the black top. It lifts out of the body, which makes it easy to keep clean between evenings.
When you are done, the flame snuffer does the work. It is a flat steel disc on a long rod, and you lower it over the cup to smother the flame instead of blowing on it or reaching across with a lid in your fingers. Lighting it again next time takes a refill and a lighter, and there is nothing to set up or install.
Small enough for any table, plain enough for any room
At 4.7 inches across and just under 4 inches tall, it takes up about as much room as a candle jar, so it sits in the middle of a dinner table without blocking anyone across from you. The body is a soft, rounded shape in matte black that widens toward its base, and it looks as much at home on a pale oak coffee table as on a stone counter, a teak patio table or a small balcony table.
Carry it out to the garden in summer and back to the living room when the evenings turn cold. Wherever it goes, everyone ends up sitting a little closer to it.
