Speckled Fruit Mug with Wavy Rim, 10 oz Ceramic Coffee Cup in 3 Designs

A short, wide ceramic mug in a speckled cream glaze, with a rim that rises and dips gently all the way round and a fruit design painted on the side in oranges, lemons or strawberries. It holds 10 ounces, a proper cup of coffee or tea, and the same fruit appears again just inside the rim, so you see it every time you look down into your drink.

The walls are not a smooth factory cylinder. Soft, uneven dents run all the way round and catch the light, and fine dark flecks are scattered through the glaze, so it looks like a piece of pottery on the table rather than a mug that came free with something. Afterwards, it goes in the dishwasher.

Low, wide and sized for one good cup

At just under three inches tall and three and a quarter inches across at its widest, it is shorter than the average mug and a little wider than it is tall, with a body that swells gently toward the bottom before it curves in to the base. That shape puts a wide circle of coffee under your nose instead of a deep narrow well, and it sits low enough on a desk or a side table that it never looks like a tankard.

Ten ounces is the size most people actually drink in one sitting. You finish it while it is still hot instead of leaving the last third to go cold beside the keyboard, and if it does go cold, it can go back in the microwave. No pouring it into another cup first. A rounded loop handle takes a finger easily, and on a cold morning the whole mug fits neatly between two hands.

Three fruits, with the brushwork still showing

The Orange has three round oranges in a soft, slightly watery orange, each with a dark green leafy cap and two small red brush marks near its edge. The Lemon has pale yellow lemons hanging from thin brown stems between narrow sage-green leaves. The Strawberry is the boldest. It has one large red strawberry in the middle, two smaller ones either side and a couple of small white flowers outlined in black.

The color sits a little uneven inside each shape and the edges wander slightly. The speckle runs straight through the fruit as well, so each design has the look of brushwork rather than a crisp print. Inside, the Orange and the Lemon each have a single fruit painted just below the rim, and the Strawberry has one of its white flowers.

One for the desk, or all three for the kitchen shelf

A single mug earns its place on a home office desk, on the small table beside a reading chair, or at the breakfast table on a slow weekend. The Set of 3 gives you one of each design, which is useful in a home where everyone has their own mug and nobody wants to argue over which one is theirs. Lined up on an open shelf, the three together bring a little color to the kitchen without turning it into a theme.

Whichever you choose, the fruit is the first thing you notice and the cream glaze is what keeps it calm.
