A vintage-style steam engine in an antique bronze finish, with a lantern cab behind the boiler where a warm LED lights up a printed Christmas scene. Stand it on the mantel, a shelf or a windowsill, switch it on as the room gets dark, and the whole little engine glows from inside.
No cord to run to an outlet. No wax and no flame. It runs on batteries, so it goes wherever it looks best.
A small scene that lights up from the inside
The side of the cab carries the picture, printed on a panel with the light set behind it. Switch it on and the scene turns gold. The glow spills out through the arched window at the front of the cab and the row of little square vents along the roof, so the engine looks lit from within rather than lit from above.
This is a soft, warm glow, not a working light. In a dim room it gives the end of a shelf the look of a lit window on a winter evening. Set among some greenery or beside a string of fairy lights, it becomes the part of the display people stop and look at.
Detail that holds up close
The engine is molded plastic with a metallic finish, brushed so the raised edges catch a bronze sheen against darker recesses. It reads as a proper steam engine. A tall smokestack, a steam dome, a round boiler front with its pipework picked out, two small leading wheels and two large spoked drive wheels joined by a coupling rod, all standing on a length of track with a slatted cowcatcher at the front.
At about 5.3 inches long and 4.3 inches tall, it is sized for the places a holiday display actually happens: the mantel, a bookshelf, the windowsill over the sink or the middle of a side table. Small enough to fit between the things already there, and detailed enough to hold its own beside them.
Which scene to pick
All four are the same engine with the same light. Only the picture in the cab changes. Santa shows him striding along with his sack. Santa and Reindeer puts him beside a reindeer in the snow. Both bring the classic red that suits a room already dressed in traditional colors. Reindeer and Tree are quieter, all woodland and snow, and they work well where the rest of the decorations lean natural or rustic. Two or three different scenes in a row along a windowsill make a small train of their own, glowing at the end of every evening.
