A low chrome wire basket that screws to the floor of a kitchen cabinet and runs on two full-extension slides. Pull it, and the whole thing comes out past the cabinet front, so the pot that lived at the very back is sitting right there in front of you. It turns a deep base cabinet into a drawer you can actually see into.

The back of the cabinet, brought out to you

Most base cabinets are deep, and everything past the first row slowly turns into a place things go to be forgotten. Each slide here is built in two stages, which is what lets the basket travel its full depth out of the cabinet instead of stopping halfway with the back third still in the dark. Fully open, the Small measures about 42 inches from the back of the slides to the front rail. Nothing at the back stays lost.

The sides stand under three and a half inches tall, so a saucepan or a skillet lifts straight out over the rail without tipping anything else. Across the front, the top wire dips down in the middle, which gives your fingers an easy place to grab when the cabinet doors are open.

Measure inside the hinges before you choose a size

There are two widths. The Small is 12 inches wide overall and 21 inches deep, and it needs a clear cabinet opening of at least 13.4 inches wide, 22.2 inches deep and 11.8 inches tall. The Large is 15 inches wide and the same 21 inches deep, for a wider cabinet.

Measure the opening itself, between whatever sticks into it, and not the door. Hinges, a face frame and the pipes under a sink all take space, and they are the usual reason a pull-out ends up a fraction too wide. Exact figures for both sizes are in the specifications below.

Pots and pans first, then anywhere a cabinet runs deep

Cookware is the obvious job. A Dutch oven, a stack of saucepans and the skillet you use every night all sit within easy reach, without a stool or a flashlight. It works just as well for the small appliances that live under the counter, like a toaster or a slow cooker, or for the jugs and spray bottles in a laundry or utility cabinet.

Because the slides screw down from inside, it also fits on a fixed pantry shelf, where jars and cans at the back stop being a mystery. The open wire floor lets you see everything from above.
